About About Individual Placement Support

The Individual Placement and Support (IPS) programme helps people living with mental health difficulties find and keep meaningful employment. Proven effective across Ireland and internationally, IPS is built on a simple but powerful belief: that work is good for wellbeing, and that everyone who wants to work deserves the chance to do so.

The programme is delivered by a dedicated Employment Specialist who works as a fully integrated member of the Donegal Community Mental Health Team. This means that employment support and mental health support go hand in hand, with seamless access to additional resources whenever they are needed throughout your journey.

There are no restrictions based on age, diagnosis, or work history. The only requirement is that you want to work.

How We Can Help

Our Employment Specialist works with you at your own pace, starting from wherever you are. Whether you have a clear idea of the type of work you want or are still figuring that out, the process begins with a conversation about your preferences, strengths, and goals.

From there, we build a plan tailored to you. Every step is guided and supported, and nothing happens without your consent. If it would be helpful, our specialist can also engage directly with employers on your behalf to ensure the role is the right fit and that your needs are met in the workplace.

Referrals to the programme come through the Donegal Community Mental Health Team at Level 1, Scally’s Place, Justice Walsh Road, Letterkenny. If you think IPS could be right for you, speak with your mental health keyworker or contact the team directly.

We help you explore career options, identify roles that suit your interests and abilities, and prepare a strong CV. We also provide mock interviews and practical guidance on job applications, giving you the skills and confidence to put your best foot forward. Where needed, we can create or negotiate customised job roles that reflect your specific strengths and circumstances.

Getting the job is just the beginning. Once you are in employment, your Employment Specialist continues to visit you regularly in the workplace, providing ongoing support to help you settle in, address any challenges, and maintain your role. This continuity of support is what makes IPS different, and it is available for as long as you need it.
