Local Area Employment Service (LAES)
About the Local Area Employment Service
The Local Area Employment Service (LAES) is a free, government-funded employment service delivered by DLDC as part of Ireland’s Pathways to Work 2021–2025 strategy. It is designed to support people who are long-term unemployed or facing significant barriers to finding and keeping work, providing structured, personalised guidance to help them move closer to the labour market and into sustainable employment.
The service is delivered by a dedicated team of case officers based across County Donegal, each working closely with clients to understand their individual circumstances and develop a tailored plan of action. From skills analysis and CV development to job search support and interview preparation, every step of the journey is guided by someone who knows the local employment landscape.
What sets the LAES apart is its commitment to continuity. Securing a job is only the beginnin, our team provides over 17 weeks of in-employment support after placement, helping clients navigate the transition into work and giving employers the confidence that their new hire has the backing they need to succeed.
All training and support sessions are delivered online, meaning you can access the service from anywhere within the DLDC catchment area, no travel required.
How We Can Help
Whether you’re looking for work or looking to hire, the LAES team is here to help. Our experienced case officers work with you directly, taking the time to understand your situation, identify the right opportunities, and put a realistic plan in place.
For job seekers, that means building the practical skills needed to find and secure employment: from crafting a strong CV to navigating online job searches and preparing for interviews. But our support doesn’t end when you get the job, we stay with you for over 17 weeks after you start, helping you settle in and succeed in your new role.
For employers, we act as a trusted recruitment partner, advertising vacancies, connecting you with motivated candidates, and providing ongoing support after hiring to help with staff retention. All at no cost to your organisation.
All sessions are delivered online, so you can access the service from anywhere within the DLDC catchment area. Referrals typically come through your local Intreo centre, but you’re also welcome to contact our team directly.
