Lifelong Learning and Personal Development
About the Lifelong Learning and Personal Development
The Lifelong Learning and Personal Development programme is delivered by DLDC through SICAP Goal 2, co-funded by the Irish Government and the European Social Fund Plus. It provides free, confidential support to adults and young people who are unemployed, feeling uncertain about their next steps, or facing challenges such as low confidence, isolation, disability, low income, or difficulties with transport or childcare.
The programme recognises that the path back to learning or work looks different for everyone. Some people need to rebuild confidence before they can think about training or employment. Others are ready to take on a certified course but need help finding the right one. Many simply need someone to talk to, listen without judgment, and help them figure out where to start.
Support is available one-to-one, in small groups, through outreach clinics, and in community spaces across County Donegal, making it as accessible as possible regardless of where you are or what stage you are at.
How We Can Help
Every journey begins with a conversation. Our team takes the time to understand your situation, your goals, and any barriers you are facing before working with you to develop a personalised action plan with realistic, achievable steps. There is no pressure and no timeline. We move at the pace that works for you.
Whether you want to build everyday confidence, gain a recognised qualification, explore a new career pathway, or simply feel more connected to your community, we have the support and resources to help. For those who have recently arrived in Ireland, we also offer specific settlement support to help you find your footing in a new place.
Confidence Building and Practical Skills
For those who need to take things one step at a time, we offer support with wellbeing, routine, and practical everyday skills including budgeting, cooking, and organising. We run group activities that reduce isolation and help you connect with others in similar situations. This support is available to anyone who needs it, regardless of background or circumstances, and is delivered in a friendly, non-judgmental environment.
Training, Courses and Pathways
We provide access to a wide range of certified short courses including manual handling, first aid, HACCP, digital skills, customer service, communication, and money management. We can also support you in finding sector-specific training pathways in areas like construction, healthcare, and hospitality, as well as practical DIY and home skills courses. For newcomers to Ireland, we offer English language classes, qualification guidance, and connections to local services and community groups.
