Self-Employment & Employment Supports

About Self-Employment & Employment Supports

The Self-Employment & Employment Supports programme is delivered by DLDC through SICAP, the Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme 2023–2027, co-funded by the Irish Government and the European Social Fund Plus.

It is designed to reduce poverty and long-term unemployment by giving individuals the practical tools, guidance, and confidence they need to enter the workforce or start their own business.

Unlike more structured referral-based services, this programme is open and accessible, anyone in the DLDC catchment area who is unemployed, considering self-employment, or simply unsure of their next step is welcome to reach out. Our team works with you one-to-one, at your own pace, to explore your options and put a plan in place.

From weekly job listings and CV coaching to business planning and enterprise training, we provide a broad range of supports tailored to where you are and where you want to go.

How We Can Help

Our employment and enterprise team works across County Donegal, with local offices in Letterkenny, Donegal Town, Gweedore, Kilcar, Ballyshannon, and Killybegs, so support is always close to home.

Whether you’re exploring the idea of starting a business, looking to get back into the workforce, or need help building the skills to get there, our team will sit down with you, listen, and help you figure out the right path forward. There’s no referral needed and no complicated process, just practical, free support from people who know the local landscape.

We also publish weekly job listings for positions across County Donegal, keeping you up to date with what’s available in your area while you work towards your goals.

If you have a business idea and aren’t sure where to start, we can help. We offer one-to-one consultations, Start Your Own Business training, and hands-on support with business planning and cash flow development. For those who have recently lost a job, we can also assist with Short-Term Enterprise Allowance (STEA) applications, helping you access financial support while you get your business off the ground.

We provide practical, personalised support to help you find and secure employment, including CV and cover letter assistance, application form guidance, interview skills coaching, and zoom interview preparation. We can also advise on reskilling and training opportunities to help you build the qualifications you need for the roles you want.
