Job Initiative Scheme
About Job Initiative Scheme
The Job Initiative Scheme is a government-funded programme, supported by the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection, that provides full-time employment opportunities for long-term unemployed individuals through placements with community and voluntary organisations, public bodies, and not-for-profit entities.
The scheme was designed to support people aged 35 or over who had been unemployed for five or more years and were in receipt of social welfare payments, offering them meaningful work experience, training, and development opportunities within their local community.
Currently, 11 participants are employed across 11 sponsor groups throughout County Donegal, contributing to the work of organisations that serve communities across the region.
Current Status
Following changes introduced by the Government in 2004, the Job Initiative Scheme is no longer open to new participants. Existing participants continue to be supported through the programme, and DLDC remains responsible for its coordination and administration in County Donegal.
If you have questions about the scheme or are a sponsor organisation seeking information, please contact our team directly.
